Structural Well Integrity Workshop in Aberdeen

Mr. Hunt described that in recent years, different parts of the energy industry have been faced with a relatively new phenomena; that of the Xmas tree “falling” as the surface casing on which it relies on for support, collapses. Initially confined to isolated incidents, individually managed by the immediate mobilisation of local response teams, the number of incidents has now increased to a point that reactive measures are no longer appropriate or sufficient. Typically well integrity focuses on the maintenance of two barriers to prevent loss of containment, but with wells becoming older across the globe a renewed focus is essential, to mitigate the risks associated with structural integrity. During the workshop causes, risks and mitigation measures were discussed by Mr. Hunt supported with example incidents and remedial operations.
